One Mitzvah at a Time
For more than three decades, the Magen Israel Center has been a steadfast provider of spiritual education to the Iranian Jewish community in greater New York. What began as a humble summer camp in 1989 has flourished into a comprehensive array of community programs, encompassing a preschool, elementary school, synagogue, women's circle, youth club, and various other initiatives. Despite our remarkable growth, our unwavering commitment to the individual has remained at the heart of Magen Israel's mission. We earnestly strive to serve as advocates and trusted companions to every member of the vibrant Jewish community, supporting them in their personal journey of Avodat Hashem, one meaningful mitzvah at a time.

In 1988, under the guidance of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Yitzchok and Tamar Chayempour embarked on a mission to aid the thousands of Persian Jewish immigrants escaping the Iranian revolution for the United States. They founded Magen Israel, an institution dedicated to meeting the spiritual needs of the newly arrived refugees with warmth and care. After 30+ years of unwavering commitment, Magen Israel stands as a beacon of warmth and love, extending its caring embrace to each and every individual it serves.
